I-Tip Hair Extensions
I-Tip extensions are very similar to K-Tip extensions because they are both a strand by strand method, but no heat or adhesive is used to adhere I-Tips. Instead, a small bead is used to connect the natural hair and the extension.
I-Tips are installed by pulling a small hair strand of the natural hair through a small micro ring close to the root area. An I-Tip extension is then placed in the bead and clamped closed with special pliers. Since the I-Tip is positioned close to the root, it moves seamlessly with your natural hair.
I-Tips can be ordered in a standard or micro size tip. Any length can be custom ordered, making these a great fit for any hair type. I tip hair extensions are great for increasing hair volume, thickness, and improving hair texture. They work incredibly well for very fine hair since they lay so flat against the head and can be installed close to the hairline, where fine hair typically needs volume the most.
I-Tips require regular maintenance every 4-8 weeks for a move up depending on your hair’s natural growth. I only source the highest quality 100% human hair, so the hair can be reused for up to a year when properly cared for .

With an I-Tip hair extension, individual strands of human hair extensions are threaded through a small bead along with a strand of the client’s natural hair, and then the bead is clamped shut. Because this type of hair extension is held in place with the bead rather than with heat or adhesives, it does far less damage to the natural hair. This is particularly good news for people with thinning hair as I-Tip extensions do not require the use of harsh chemicals or processes that may result in further loss of or damage to natural hair follicles. In fact, the inside of the beads used in the I-Tip hair extension process are lined with silicone to further protect the hair.
I-Tip hair extensions are also lighter than most other hair extensions, making them even better for thin or fine hair. They look great on short hair and are available in any color or custom length. When the time comes to take them out, the removal process is painless and relatively quick and easy in comparison to other types of hair extensions.
One of the cons of I-Tips might be the length of time it takes to put them in. Because the beads are clamped onto small strands of hair, it usually takes one and a half to two hours. However, this is still a much shorter period than is required for sew in weaves, which can take three to six hours. Another possible downside is that caring for your hair is more complicated with extensions than without them.
How to Care for Your I-Tip Extensions
Since we use only real human hair for our extensions to give you a natural look, you can style it the same way you would your natural hair. You can curl, straighten, blow dry, and use many of the same styling products. Follow these essential proper care maintenance tips to keep your I-Tip extensions looking their best and ensure you’re getting the most out of their lifespan.
–Be cautious not to vigorously scratch or pull at the hair close to your scalp. This goes for brushing your hair too; it’s better to start down at the ends and work your way up, avoiding the hair closest to the beads.
–Wash your hair every two to three weeks by rubbing it gently in between your hands. Don’t pile it on top of your head and rub it on your scalp to wash it. Be gentle!
–Avoid using silicone or oil-based styling and hair care products, as they can reduce the friction of the clamp and might cause the hair extension strand to slip down.
As with any type of hair extension, a little bit of mindfulness goes a long way toward breaking old habits if you are accustomed to habitually pulling on your hair or scratching or rubbing your scalp.
I-Tip Hair Extensions FAQs
How long do I-tip hair extensions last?
I -tip extensions last approximately 3-6 months depending on how you take care of them and how fast your hair grows.
Can I-tip extensions be reused?
Yes! This is one of the best things about I-Tip extensions. As long as you take care of them and they don’t become damaged, our qualified stylists can re-use them for a second installation. That second use can be up to a year after the first one. Make sure you take good care of them and they can be refitted again.
How many I-tip extensions for a full head?
How many I-tip extensions you need to get a full head depends on your natural hair type and the volume that you would like to add to your hair. We can discuss how many extensions it would take in a free 15 minute consultation.
How Long Can You Go Between Refittings for I-Tip Hair Extensions?
That depends partly on how fast your hair grows, how much your hair sheds, and how well you take care of your I-Tip hair extensions. You are generally recommended to return to the salon every four to six weeks. During your follow-up appointments, the beads are opened to remove any hair that has shed and to clear out any residue that might have collected around the bead. The stylist then moves each individual bead up closer to the scalp in order to compensate for new hair growth. Of course, if you notice any problems with your I-Tips, you’ll want to come in immediately so they can be corrected.
