Whenever you go to the salon, you want to be able to leave with that extra boost of confidence that comes from getting your hair professionally done. Hair extensions are one of the best ways to change your style without waiting for hair to grow in. But these days, there are so many different hair extensions that you might be overwhelmed when having to decide for yourself. So let’s explore each type of hair extension to find out what each option is like.

Keratin (K-tip) Extensions

What is a Keratin (K-tip) Extension?

Keratin or K-tip extensions are hair extensions that have one end attached to your natural hair with keratin glue. Keratin is a glue-like material that is also used in nail polishes, meaning that

this material is completely suitable and safe for people to use.

Pros

  • Unlike other extensions, K-tip extensions are extremely versatile so that you are free to style your hair any way you like.
  • Because the maintenance for K-tip extensions is so much easier, it is perfect for busy women who want that low-maintenance hair care routine.
  • K-tip extensions provide the most natural look and feel to your hair. As they are attached with keratin bonds in tiny sections, they blend well with your natural hair and cannot be detected.

Cons

  • In order to create that extremely natural appearance, the installation process is very intricate and can take quite a long time to install each extension. Taking up to several hours, it is not dissimilar to getting your hair dyed at the salon.

How long do they last?

K-tip hair extensions can last between 4 and 6 months and require minimal maintenance between sets when properly cared for.

How to take care of K-Tip extensions?

One of the advantages of getting K-tip extensions is how easy it is to maintain them. Because of how they are attached to your hair, you are more able to take care of them as you would your natural hair.

I – Tip Extensions

What is an I-Tip extension?

I-tip extensions use a small copper bead to connect your natural hair with the extension hair, connected close to your roots and lying flat against your head.

Pros

  • An excellent fit for any hair type and work incredibly well with very fine hair.
  • I-tip extensions can be reused as long as they are given proper care.
  • Heat is not required when the extensions are applied.

Cons

  • I-tip extensions require move-up maintenance every 4 to 8 weeks, depending on your hair’s natural growth so that the extensions can be moved back up towards your roots.

How long do they last?

Depending on how well you take care of them, I-tip extensions can last approximately 3 to 6 months.

How to take care of I-top extensions?

So that your I-tip extensions can last longer, be sure to give them proper care. Our team of artists can help you understand the best way to care for your new extensions, but some basic tips include the following:

  • Use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners to protect the extensions.
  • If you want to rock ponytails, messy buns, or up-dos, then wear them loosely.
  • If you can’t go without straightening or curling your hair, then be sure to use a heat protectant.
  • Use a basic bottom-up brushing technique with the proper extension brush.

Wefts

What is a Weft extension?

Weft extensions are small strands of hair that are sewn into a small piece of cloth to create a seam, or “weft.” The wefts are then ‘sewn’ into your natural hair by attaching tiny portions of the extension’s strands to small pieces of the natural strands and securing them together with a bead at the roots. Wefts come in large sections and can be deconstructed to customize the amount of volume you want to add. They are a full coverage extension option and are excellent for blending short to long. They are perfect for those with thicker, coarser hair!

Pros

  • Beaded weft extensions do not cause any damage to the natural hair it is sewn onto, and they are safe to use heat products and styling tools on.

Cons

  • Like other more permanent hair extension services, wefts take time to install

How long do they last?

Wefts can last up to a year, depending on how well they are taken care of, and they will also need to be moved up toward the roots regularly as your hair grows.

How to take care of Wefts?

Weft hair extensions take additional work as they do not produce the same oils as natural hair and can damage more easily. Ask your stylist for the best tips on taking care of your new extensions.

Tape-Ins

What is a Tape-in extension?

Tape-in extensions are small wefts of hair held together by polyurethane adhesive tape.

Pros

  • Tape-Ins are one of the safest methods for hair extensions.
  • They are quick to install when it comes to semi-permanent extensions.
  • A great thing about Tape-in extensions is that they are reusable, which will prolong the lifetime of your look.

Cons

  • You cannot wash your hair for 24 to 48 hours after applying tape-in extensions.
  • The use of any silicone or oil-based products directly on the adhesive may cause the panels to slip.

How long do Tape-Ins last?

Tape-in extensions require maintenance every 6 to 9 weeks. With our high-quality extensions, you can reuse them as you get the maintenance done. That means you’ll have worry-free beautiful hair with the required maintenance every couple of months.

How to take care of Tape-Ins?

Washing hair with tape-in extensions can be a challenge. It requires brushing your hair beforehand, knowing how to properly shampoo and conditioner your hair, and how to dry it without damaging your extensions. We will cover these steps when installing your tape-in extensions.
